    Description

Vintage Pre-Prohibition Porcelain Match Holder Striker Match Cutter Advertising the Louis Bergdoll Brewing Company and
Protiwiner Export Beer. It measures 5" long by 4" Wide by 4" High. Cigar Cutter is 3" Long. One side of the match holder
reads "Protiwiner Export, Old Style Larger Beer, 29 th & Parrish Sts". The other side reads "Louis Bergdoll Brewing Co
Philadelphia" . This is very hard to fine cross collectable for Prohibition, tobacco, cigars, match holders, beer, breweriana and
Philadelphia . The Bergdoll family became well-known through the Louis Bergdoll and Sons Brewing Co., founded in 1849 by
Louis Bergdoll, a German immigrant. During its peak operating period, the Bergdoll brewery produced one of the most popular
beers in the country. In spite of Prohibition, the company did not actually dissolve until 1951, when the Bergdoll building at
29th and Parrish Streets was sold. The Bergdoll estates were valued at several million dollars. Overall it has a great patina.
You can picture this fine item in a nice restaurant or men's club where gentlemen could appreciate their fine larger and cigar.
Most likely a pre prohibition item.  A very hard to find item especially in this fine shape. The cutter
    has some surface rust but
has a strong spring and works properly.
