RC SCALE:
Texas RC F8F Bearcat with 2489 mm / 97 inch wing span is about 1/4.5 scale.
Bates & Ziroli F8F Bearcats are about 1/5 scale.
VQ & Bates F8F Bearcats with about 80 inch wing span are about 1/5.5 scale.
Lindinger F8F Bearcat with 1800 mm / 72 inch wing span is about 1/6 scale.
Measure the instrument panel space width of your aircraft. The fuselage of most RC aircraft seem to be a little fat, adjust cockpit panels to fit.
FINE SCALE:
Print LIFE SIZE PNG file onto 35mm (24x36mm, about 1½ inches wide) slide film.
A 35 inch wide panel printed full frame = about 1/24 scale, 2/3 frame = about 1/32 scale, and ½ frame = about 1/48 scale. Hi-white the back and install. The detail is there, but you’ll need a magnifier to see it.
Use this ratio to tailor panel fit:
Trumpeter F8F1 Bearcat (Dien Bien Phu) in 1/32 scale.

F8F Bearcat evolved from the Hellcat after evaluating Focke Wulf 190 ‘butcher’. F8F retained the powerful R2800 inside the slim lightweight fuselage - an engine with a saddle on it - the most powerful single-engine aircraft ever built.
F8F1 Bearcat
– 200 went to Armee de l’Air in 1951 for use in French Indochina. The French Bearcat became an effective jungle ground attack weapon. After Dien Bien Phu, the surviving 28 Bearcats went to South Vietnam. US Special Operations in South Vietnam and Royal Thai AF flew Bearcats until the US left the area about 1972.
F8F2 Bearcat
- Grumman built 300 F8F2s. Lighter, faster and more powerful -These were flown by Marines and Navy. A few went to the racing circuit.
