Description
Simple yet graceful and beautiful, as the dogs themselves are. Bookends in the form of setters standing at point, feathery tails out, paws lifted.Hollow-cast grey metal (spelter) with a coppery bronze finish applied. No maker's mark (probably were foil labels on the bottoms) so I have no idea who made these. Or when. But I think at least as old as mid-century. Today, these would be molded resin.
Condition is fine. No damage to the metal, no cracks, dents or scratches. Finish is in fine shape as well with some scuffs and spotting on the edges of the bases and some wear on the heads and tails from handling. Felts look old but I have no idea if they are original. Both pieces sit flat and stable.
These are surprisingly large. 6 1/2 inches tall; 8 1/2 inches long (nose to tail direction); 3 3/4 inches across. And heavy at 3 1/4 pounds EACH PIECE. I have not looked under the cardboard that covers the openings at the bottom but I expect I would find either plaster or waste metal added to provide weight. These guys will hold up your big hunting books.
Perfect gift for the breeder or dog lover in your family.
